Bittersweet Beats for Restless Feet
Flor de Lux is Gabi and John. Influenced by the coarse beauty of their hometown of Philadelphia, they fuse Gabi’s bittersweet lyrics with John’s penchant for grimy, club-oriented beats, to write songs inspired by romanticism and the art of letting go. Reminding audiences of Eurythmics and FKA Twigs, they draw from art pop, dark wave, house, and R&B to create their unique brand of electronic pop.
After churning out a few singles over the past year, Flor de Lux released their debut EP, Ritual Charms, on June 16, 2023. Made for summer, this record is full of sensual songs perfect for your romantic playlists and ecstatically washing your dishes. With their powerfully dynamic soundscapes and sultry, vibe-heavy vocals, Ritual Charms takes the listener on a journey from infatuation to resentment and heartbreak, and then finally to acceptance and freedom where you’re ready to fall in love in the club. The circle of life. A ritual, if you will. Ritual Charms is currently streaming on all music platforms and visuals to accompany every track on the EP can be found on YouTube.
With their debut EP released, Flor de Lux is looking forward to treating audiences to more live shows and continuing to wow crowds with their high octane, dance-heavy performances.

Ritual Charms
A funny quirk of the album is that some of the track names are never mentioned in the song lyrics. "Ritual Charms" never makes any mention of rituals, but does talk a lot about charms. The phrase "Dream Boat" is never uttered in the titular song, but Gabi's lyrics are about a dreamy person and that was the name John had given to the beat, so Flor de Lux ran with it. Maybe that same spirit is how Flor de Lux landed on the decision to make a modern-day still life in the style of a Dutch Golden Age painting as their album art.
Dutch Golden Age still life paintings were known for depicting ostentatious scenes of everyday life complete with hidden messages and symbolism. Flor de Lux thinks of this album in a similar way. Listen and get lost in your search for deeper meaning. You might find something unexpected there.
